In July of 2007 Ms Boone's triumphant London debut in The Royal Festival Hall's production of Bizet and Hammerstein's Carmen Jones directed by Jude Kelly garnered the following praise from London reviewer Paul Callan:
". in so many ways, the evening must go to little Sherry Boone as Cindy Lou. She dominated the stage with her modesty and her genuine love for unfaithful Joe. Her voice is sweet with passion and the aria My Joe was so delicately and sensitively sung it brought the house down."
Sherry Boone has taken New York by storm since she first landed in Port Authority in 1991 with $50 dollars in her pocket. With the help of casting director Andrew Zerman Sherry landed an agent and created an explosive ongoing career as an actress, writer, director, producer, opera singer and humanitarian. She debuted on Broadway in Jelly's Last Jam starring Gregory Hines and directed by George C. Wolfe. Ms. Boone has toured nationally with the Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables and later starred in Carousel directed by Nicholas Hytner, in Michael John LaChiusa's Marie Christine, directed by Graciela Daniele, and in First Lady Suite, directed by Jack Cummings III of the critically acclaimed Transport Group. She was directed by the innovative Moises Kaufman in Terrence McNally's Master Class starring the legendary Rita Moreno as Maria Callas.
Ms. Boone broke racial barriers when she triumphed as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, a co production of Portland Center Stage and Dallas Theater Center. in 2005.
Ms. Boone also starred with renowned authors Gish Jen, Walter Mosley, Pulitzer Prize Winner Nilo Cruz and noted violinist Choliang Lin in Stirring The Pot, a tribute to multicultural America for the Asian, Black, and Hispanic Congressional Caucuses in Puerto Rico.
In 2006, Ms. Boone wowed audiences on Broadway, again in Terrence McNally's Master Class -this time starring alongside Dixie Cater, Kathy Bates, Jessica Lange, Edie Falco, Maria Tucci, and Leslie Uggams each starring as Maria Callas. That same year, she was handpicked by director Tamilla Woodard for An Evening Honoring Toni Morrison at Lincoln Center. Ms. Boone's rendition of Morrison and Previn's Take My Mother Home was given a standing ovation led by President William Jefferson Clinton and Toni Morrison herself.
Opera credits include The Scrimshaw Violin- libretto by Jonathan Levine, music by Bruce Saylor, directed by Mel Marvin, and Marvin and Levine's Guest from the Future). She debuted at Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival in Robert Kapilow's Green Eggs and Hamadeus. Ms. Boone also debuted with The National Symphony Orchestra at The Kennedy Center in Rob Kapilow's And Furthermore, They Bite! and returned the following year to perform Kapilow's Two By Seuss. She has been a guest Soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, The Toronto Symphony, The Nashville Symphony Orchestra, and the Hartford Symphony.
Ms. Boone is founder and Artistic Director of Opera at Home, a cutting edge Opera Company dedicated to increasing the audience of opera all over the globe by creating a "heart-to-heart exchange" between audience and artist. The company was established in 1998 with the mission to motivate mankind through the human voice and to share classical music with underserved audiences.
A published lyricist and poet, Sherry Boone has collaborated with composer Sean Jeremy Palmer to produce and direct Ellen Craft: A New American Opera. Based on true events of a half -white, half-black woman's harrowing escape from slavery disguised as a white man, Ellen's fiery story of revenge, love, forgiveness and redemption was recognized as Best Ensemble Performance at the 2004 New York International Fringe Festival. Ellen Craft , with Sherry Boone as its star, will be performed on both the Music Theatre and Operatic Stages of the world.
